Parzy Rose is a Life Member of the VFW.

In 1942, while still in college majoring in mathematics, Parzy volunteered for the Navy. With his math background, he was offered an opportunity to learn a new hush-hush technology called Radar. He was sent to Radar School in Corpus Christi, Texas, and upon graduation, he was assigned as an inspector working out of Washington, D. C.

Restless for action, Parzy was sent to MIT in Boston to learn the new state-of-the-art Radar and upon completion, was assigned to the first Navy Night-fighter Squadron, VFN-76. There he flew as a Radar Technician, Gunner, Navigator and Radio Operator.

He was then assigned to Torpedo Squadron 8 where he flew 43 combat missions with the Squadron Commander off the USS Bunker Hill in the South Pacific.

During this time Parzy was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and several Air Medals.

Returning from the combat zone, he was assigned to the Bureau of Aeronautics at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank California as an inspector. There, he flew with the Chief Navy test pilot on first and second production flights until the end of the war when he was discharged in September, 1945.

Following the war, the Oregon Air National Guard in Portland, gave Parzy the opportunity to continue in his chosen avocation where he worked in Radar and as Maintenance Control Officer and finally as the Deputy Commander for maintenance with the 116th Tactical Control Squadron until September 1982, retiring from the US Air Force as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.
